"[A] page turning mystery . . . it provides a wholly satisfying whodunit as well as a good reason to look up the other two [books in the series] . . . Griffiths's Galloway is a likable and alluring character.”—Associated Press

Just back from maternity leave, forensic archeologist Ruth is finding it hard to juggle motherhood and work when she is called in to investigate human bones that have surfaced on a remote Norfolk beach. The presence of DCI Harry Nelson, the married father of her daughter, does not help. The bones, six men with their arms bound, turn out date back to World War II, a desperate time on this stretch of coastland.

Home Guard veteran Archie Whitcliffe reveals the existence of a secret the old soldiers have vowed to protect with their lives. But then Archie is killed and a German journalist arrives, asking questions about Operation Lucifer, a plan to stop a German invasion, and a possible British war crime. What was Operation Lucifer? And who is prepared to kill to keep its secret?

The House at Sea’s End

Awesome! I have already told others about the books. I have enjoyed this book like the first. Thanks k

Totally Disapointed

I read the first two books and enjoyed them very much. I got through the Pagan viewpoint because overall the Christian view was fairly represented, which included both the good and bad. I was disappointed, actually OUTRAGED, that the character decided to not have her child baptized, rather paganized at a "naming ceremony." Horrible ... And I stopped reading. It has ruined the series.

While Looking for a new mystery I ran across this new release from Elly Griffiths-I also looked @ her two other Books in the Ruth Galloway series & bought the set. I recommend getting to know the archeologist Dr.Ruth Galloway by reading the series in order-not because you will become lost or confused as a reader but because you will want to begin this new journey with the author as she involves you in rich landscapes from salt marshes to sea side villages & English towns all the while introducing the reader to some of the most well developed characters which evolve in her stories, some who continue on in her subsequent books & those who don't still remain memorable to the reader. This is not a arrogant, archeologist helping out the police when bodies & bones are found-the author Ms. Griffiths has woven a persona which is multifaceted & approachable. Very honest, Witty & vulnerable, yet strong & intelligent. As her books are read there is a great deal of knowledge & historical facts intertwined in the plot structure but because her characters are written so well these facts are delivered to the reader as though we were in the conversations Along with the characters. Cannot recommend more highly.
